We met at Concordia University in Montreal, where we were completing master's degrees in English Literature. A couple of years later, we bumped into each other on the bank of the Gatineau River in Wakefield, Quebec, a place we both now call home.
Point was born out of a shared conviction that first-rate writing is a powerful tool. Now, we write for some of Ottawa’s most notable organizations, including the Team Behind Bluesfest, the Canadian Museum of History, and the Canadian War Museum. We also write web content and promotional material for numerous businesses. In all of our writing contracts, we work hard to ensure that a consistent, genuine, and professional voice is conveyed on behalf of our clients. We also believe that two sets of eyes are better than one, which is why we always review each other’s work.
As editors, we comb through newspapers, educational guides, and books with a firm knowledge of style and grammar rules and a relentless eye for detail that stems from our belief in the power of concise, error-free communication.
I have a master’s degree in English Literature with a specialization in Creative Writing. I paid my way through university working as a copy writer, teaching assistant, and proofreader. I worked as a writing coach at Algonquin College, and I have taught Business Communications and English as a Second Language at the post-secondary level. I am working on my first novel, which has benefited from the mentorship of Giller-winning author Lynn Coady at the Banff Centre. You can find a sample of my short fiction, which won first prize in the CBC Quebec Writing Competition, here, in Maisonneuve magazine. You can read another piece here, in Geist magazine. Most recently, I was one of three Canadian writers shortlisted for the RBC Writer's Trust of Canada Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers.
I have a master's degree in English Literature, but my valuable skill sets were developed in the years I spent working at a strategic policy consulting firm in Ottawa. I know government speak, machinery, and public policy—and how to get through it. I also know what high-quality written products look like for the likes of senior-level officials, from briefing notes to speeches and reports. Our clients came from virtually every department of the federal government, as well as a host of not-for-profit organizations.
I have also previously worked with a publishing firm, reviewing manuscripts to determine their eligibility for the publishing program. I content edited, copy edited, and proofread manuscripts from beginning to press.
I am a marketing content writer and business communications expert. Most recently, I worked at an Ottawa-based technology startup, where I developed a knack for cutting through technical jargon to articulate value for potential customers. I collaborated on marketing strategy and created compelling written content to reinforce brand messaging and drive customer engagement.
I have also worked as an instructor for several tutorials on business communications and technical writing for Concordia University’s engineering department. I have experience as a contractor proofreader, and I edit content for an Ottawa-based not-for-profit organization on an ongoing basis.
